COOLWALL® Q&A
Q: How much money can I save with COOLWALL®?
A: The U.S. Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory has tested COOLWALL® and found it cuts air conditioning costs by up to 21.9%*. (Savings based on DOE study that showed typical savings ranged from 4.2 - 21.9%).
Q: How does COOLWALL® reflect heat with both light and dark colors, since dark colors capture more energy?
A: COOLWALL® has been chemically engineered for tremendous solar energy reflection performance. Solar energy is comprised of: 53% Heat, 43% Colors, and 4% UV. COOLWALL® keeps surfaces cooler because it's been engineered to reflect heat. You don't need to paint your home white, or any other light color to enjoy lowered heating costs.
Q: How does COOLWALL® keep it's color for so long?
A: Textured Coatings of America has been formulating fade resistant coatings for more than five decades. When heat reflection is added to this winning formula, it is icing on the cake.
Q: How is COOLWALL® made?
A: COOLWALL® is non-toxic, and environmentally-friendly. Advanced inorganic pigment technology, and the highest performance acrylic polymers available, make it a lasting investment into the durability of your home. It also comes in 570 colors, and we can custom match any existing color.
Q: Is COOLWALL® only for homes covered in stucco?
A: Stucco, metal, wood, concrete, fiber cement, and brick types materials are suitable for coating with COOLWALL®.
Q: How much does COOLWALL® cost?
A: COOLWALL® installation costs depend on home size, surface condition and type, and other factors. Request a FREE in-home estimate online by clicking here to get COOLWALL® pricing. Remember, by not repainting over and over, and by saving in air conditioning costs, COOLWALL® saves you hundreds of thousands over the years.
Q: How does the COOLWALL® system compare to "ceramic" coatings?
A: These so called "ceramic" coatings are simply ordinary coatings where small reflective ceramic spheres have been added to help lower cooling costs. The premise sounds good, except the measured results do not support the claim. Even though these coatings may go on heavier than ordinary paint, there simply is not enough thickness to insulate, and not enough ceramic to reflect heat effectively. These ceramic coatings have been debunked by the Department of Energy and the Federal Trade Commission since they do not increase reflectivity. View Department of Energy video “Ceramics vs. COOLWALL”.
Q: What is the COOLWALL® "R" Rating?
A: COOLWALL® does not "insulate" so it does not have an "R value" (R stands for resistance to conduction of heat). Instead, COOLWALL® lowers energy bills by reflecting the sun's heat, so that your home does not get as hot in the first place. This cuts into the amount of heat that your fiberglass or other insulation needs to keep out. Thus, you will need your air conditioning much less.
TEX•COTE has been reported on favorably in the Los Angeles Times, KFI and KNX Radio, KCBS-TV, KABC-TV, KNBC-TV, David Horowitz's "Fight Back", and numerous industry publications.
Stands up to 98 mph wind driven rain. (Federal Specification TT-C-555B)
Professional Application
The 11 step process of applying TEX•COTE COOLWALL® can only be performed by factory authorized personnel and contractors. There are other TEX•COTE contractors, and other Platinum COOLWALL® contractors, but Capstone Coatings & Windows is the only COSTCO approved COOLWALL® contractor in California.
COOLWALL® 11-Step Process
We don't perform installation during rain, sleet, hail, or snow. Thus we can be sure the surface is dry, clean, and prepared fully. Thus we have much more assurance of proper drying.
1) INSPECTION - We carefully check the outside of your home for chipping, peeling, flaking, wood rot, and effloresence poisoning. Wood that need replacing is spotted, and we take care of it.
2) TRENCHING - A hole is dug several inches deep around your home so when we apply water proof yet air permeable COOLWALL®, it will help prevent moisture from the ground from damaging your home. We don't just paint your home like painters. We also set you up to avoid costly repairs down the road.
3) PRESSURE WASHING - 6000 psi blasts away dirt, mold, stains, loose paint, and anything else that should not be there. Areas that were thought to be solid might be revealed to be in need of patching, or wood replacement.
4) PATCH AND REPAIR - Rotted or poisoned wood gets replaced. Big holes are filed with TEX•BOND which is molded and sculpted to match the surface. Cracks less than 1/8" should have FLEX•PATCH® applied. Imperfections between 1/8" and 3/8" should have TEX•COTE SKIM COTE used. The resulting surfaces are sanded to match the surrounding surfaces, so priming will result in a smooth, uniform surface that looks right.
5) MASKING - Everything that we are not coating is protected with thick paper or plastic. This includes the lawn, windows, doors, patios, columns, roses, and shrubberies. We strive to avoid overspray.
6) COOLWALL® PRIMER - Special primer is sprayed on thick at 3000psi. It chemically bonds to the surface like glue, and protects your home from weather damage. You can choose from 4 levels of smooth or textured primer. If you ever want to change the color of your home, you don't need to remove the primer. Once primed, your home looks white.
7) INSPECTION #1 - The now primered surface is inspected for uniformity, thickness, and places that might have been overlooked.
8) TEX•COTE COOLWALL® SUPER•COTE - The color you chose from 570 colors sprayed on thick like glue at 3000psi, yet beautiful to look at. If you can't find a color you like, we can custom match any color.
9) COOLWALL® UV PROCESS - Another layer is sprayed onto the now beautiful COOLWALL® surface, which makes it even more resistant to aging than it already was. This step is exclusively for COSTCO customers.
10) TRIM•COTE - After the surfaces to be trimmed are scraped, and sanded of loose and old paint, they are patched with TEX•BOND and FLEX•PATCH® as described in step 4. Caulking is performed around all areas where water could penetrate the trim into your home.
11) CLEAN UP / INSPECTION #2 - Masking and tarps are removed from everything. All coated surfaces receive a thorough inspection for uniform thickness and appearance. We clean up after ourselves.
